Covergirl has recently released the Covergirl Nature Luxe Mousse Mascara which comes in four shades; Brown (515), Black Brown (510), Black (505), and Very Black (500). It can be purchased at drugstores for $8.49. The claim is that this mascara is 20% lighter in density than high-end mascaras because it is made with beeswax. The end effect is intended to be soft yet voluminous.
I bought the Nature Luxe Mascara in Very Black. The reason I was drawn to this mascara was because of its earthy yet polished packaging and is "mousse" effects. My initial response after taking off the packaging was that it still seemed 'hippy chic' to me. The wand is tightly packed synthetic bristles that form an almost beehive shape - the tip is very small and the length of the bristles grow as you look towards the grip. As ridiculous as this sounds, I actually smelled the wand after it had been darkened with the formula to see if it had a honey scent. To me it smelled more like sunscreen and marzipan, which I actually was very pleased by. Upon further inspection I noticed that the formula had a quite scilicone-y texture which seemed a bit odd.
In the morning I put it on without curling my lashes. It darkened my lashes and defined them with a minimal amount of clumping. After wearing it out in the heat for 8 1/2 hours they seemed the same as they did when it was first applied.
Although the mascara does have a mousse-like consistency, it still felt thick on my lashes, especially on the second day when it flaked at the touch. Although it provides definition, it did not have curling or volume or length, all of which I look for in a good mascara. This mascara (and yes, I'm aware it's not waterproof) does not withstand water or tears. This may seem intriguing and I often love Covergirl but I would not recommend this to people who like huge, dark, soft lashes.
